FIGHTING

FOR OUR FUTURE

ABOUT

In recent years, B.C.’s forestry sector has faced a “perfect storm” of challenges, leading to a significant decline in employment and economic contribution. it is a crisis that affects real people and communities.

Since 2001, the industry has seen a staggering 45% drop in employment, translating to lost livelihoods for nearly 35,000 workers. Last year alone, the forestry sector saw the loss of 3,750 jobs.

The three major unions representing forestry workers – Unifor, United Steelworkers, and PPWC – are uniting to Fight for our Future.

The path forward must be one that honours this legacy through a commitment to sustainable practices, Indigenous partnerships, innovation, and the well-being of the workers and communities who have built this industry.

Unifor, United Steelworkers and PPWC will bring together B.C. forestry unions to discuss the challenges the industry is facing and provide the opportunity to work together on solutions. Workers made this sector the economic powerhouse, and their voices should be central to planning its future.

Through conversations hosted by leaders, speakers, and activists, delegates will have the opportunity to learn and contribute to our collective goals and our plans to achieve them.

Unifor local leadership in B.C.’s forestry industry are encouraged to send a strong delegation to represent their locals in these important discussions.

NOTE: There will be a reception on Monday, March 11 at 7–9 p.m.
